COP 15 - COPENHAGEN: Developing countries present climate proposal - 02/12/2009 00:10

A South African climate negotiator says four major developing nations have presented a joint climate proposal ahead of next week's UN conference on global warming.

Alf Wills says the document by China, India, Brazil and South Africa represents "different positions" compared to a separate outline for the global climate talks by Denmark, which will host the Dec. 7-18 conference. Wills said the joint document was presented at a preparatory meeting between negotiators in Copenhagen on Tuesday. He didn't give any details. Rich and developing countries are at odds over how to divide the responsibility for reducing greenhouse emissions, with developing countries saying they should not be forced to commit to binding targets.
